By Lieutenant Jordan Bankert
April 16, 2011

At 17:39, Station 58 was alerted to assist with a vehicle fire at Tom's in Shrewsbury. Engine 61 arrived and advised that the fire was out, then set up command. Command had Engine 58-1 continue in to assist with leaking diesel fuel. After talking to the driver and ascertaining the amount of fuel in the tanks, Command 61 had Haz-Mat 91 dispatched, as well as MICU 58 for rehab. Crews from Station 58 and 61 began working to contain the fuel leak. Command also had units from Station 59 and BC 451 dispatched for manpower as well. Haz-Mat crews offloaded the diesel fuel into containment barrels, while the crew from Station 59 investigated the possibility of downstream contamination. After the spill was cleaned up, Command 61 placed the box in-service and units went available when ready.
