March 5, 2014

At approximately 15:45 Stations 58, 59, 61, and BC 450 were alerted for the report of a garage fire in the 100 block of Freedom Avenue in New Freedom Borough. Engine 58-1 responded with four personnel in under a minute. Upon arrival crews found a two story single family dwelling with heavy smoke showing from the eves. Captain 58 (Shearer) assumed the command and requested a working fire assignment. The crew from Engine 58-1 then stretched an attack line, secured a water source, and forced entry into the residence. The crew made an aggressive interior attack through the front door and encountered smoke, and high heat from floor to ceiling. Upon reaching the seat of the fire, they extinguished it, and began ventilation. Truck 58 arrived and performed a primary search of the first and second floors, both of which were negative. Crews from 61 and 59 then assisted in hitting hot spots, and checking for extension. Crews from BC 450 assumed the duties of the fourth arriving engine as RIT. No injuries were reported, and crews operated on scene for several hours. Thank you Station 45 (Winterstown) for standing by at our station during this incident.
