The Rose Fire Company #1 of New Freedom, along with Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company, Glen Rock Hose and Ladder Company, and the Eureka Fire Company of Stewartstown, was awarded a regional FEMA grant today that was submitted in 2011 for the amount of $264,950. This grant money will provide all four departments with new digital radio equipment enabling direct communications with mutual aid departments in Maryland. A few years ago, the Maryland fire departments that provide us with mutual aid went through a similar process when they had to purchase new York County digital radios to be able to communicate with our departments on emergency incidents.

Since our departments are located in Southern York County Pa. a mutual aid response profile is essential to provide adequate service to the citizens of Southern York County and Northern Baltimore, Carroll and Harford Counties located in Maryland. The safety of our firefighters and all the citizens that we serve is and will continue to be our primary goal during this grant process.

The Rose Fire Co. #1 is pleased to have worked with the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company, Glen Rock Hose and Ladder Company, and the Eureka Fire Company on this regional grant process. The effort put forth on this grant by all four departments shows a true commitment to the safety of our firefighters and the citizens of the region. We would like to thank FEMA and our Congressional members who assisted us in the acquisition of this grant.
